May 23

May 23 – Left Barstow, and drove in to Fullerton, CA to drop the load.

I’m writing this a couple of days after the fact, but I know that while in the LA area we went to Oxnard to pick up lemons, Riverside and a couple of other little towns.

We ended up staying the night in Oxnard in the parking lot where we picked up the lemons. Seems that someone had messed up on the paperwork and after the lemons were loaded they showed to be going to Andover, MD. Uhhhh, we are going to Munster, IN!

This wasn’t a very fun night as I had $3 in my pocket and no way to get any money or eat. I went walking and finally found a McDonalds so I ate off the dollar menu and drank water.

Our company requires that trainees fulfill certain requirements before moving on to the next phase of training. One requirement is I have to drive down 2 mountains without using the Jake brake that is on the companies “approved training mountain” list. I got my first mountain today. I drove down Cajon Pass in CA.

I wasn’t impressed at all with LA although I bet it would be nice living on one of the big hills with a nice view. I did enjoy the scenery just outside of LA though. I remember it was nice around Oxnard with all of the orange and lemon orchards. In fact one of our stops was down a road until it dead ended then took a right on a dirt road that led to one of the orchard to pick up more lemons.

I drove 140 miles today.
